How it works
To resize an image for Instagram, YouTube, or LinkedIn, drop it onto this page and pick the platform preset — the image is centre-cropped to that platform’s exact pixel dimensions rather than scaled to fit, so the result is the size the platform actually asks for.
Every platform publishes exact pixel dimensions for its upload slots, and every platform will happily accept an image that does not match them — then crop it for you, usually through the middle of somebody’s face. Getting the dimensions right before uploading is the only way to control what gets kept.
This tool crops rather than scales. That distinction matters and it is why the general resizer is a different page: scaling an image to "fit inside" 1080×1080 gives you 1080×810 if the photo is a normal 4:3 shot, which is not what Instagram asked for. Here the image is enlarged until it fills the box completely and the overflow is trimmed evenly from both sides, so the output is exactly the requested size with nothing distorted. Keep your subject somewhere near the middle and the crop will do the right thing.
The quality slider controls JPG compression on the way out, which matters more than people expect for social uploads: every platform re-compresses what you send it, so an image that is already heavily compressed goes through the process twice and comes out visibly worse. Leaving quality high here generally produces a better final result on the platform than pre-compressing to save upload time.
Sizes do drift — platforms change layouts and the numbers move with them. The presets here are the current published dimensions, but the width and height boxes stay editable underneath precisely so you are never stuck waiting for us if one changes.
FAQ
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080×1080 pixels for a square post, 1080×1350 for the taller 4:5 portrait format, and 1080×1920 for a story. Portrait 4:5 takes up the most space in the feed, which is why many accounts prefer it.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280×720 pixels, a 16:9 ratio. YouTube also imposes a 2MB file size limit on thumbnails — if yours is over, run it through the compress-to-size tool afterwards.
Will my image be cropped or squashed?
Cropped, never squashed. The image is scaled up until it covers the target box, then the excess is trimmed equally from opposite edges. Aspect ratio is always preserved.
Why does this crop when the resize tool does not?
They answer different questions. The resizer makes an image smaller while keeping all of it, so the final dimensions depend on the original shape. This tool guarantees exact dimensions, which is only possible by discarding whatever does not fit.
Can I use a size that is not in the list?
Yes. The presets just fill in the width and height boxes — type any numbers you like and the same centre-crop applies.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping and re-encoding happen in your browser through the Canvas API. The network counter under the tool stays at zero bytes uploaded while your files are processed.
